A lot of praise and some trolling for Zingaat adaptation

Team Dhadak has probably steeled themselves for the inevitable comparisons with the original Marathi film Sairat. Today the much-awaited foot-tapper ‘Zingaat…’ released. The Hindi version very much retains the spirit and the soul of the original and is just as perky and zingy. Rendered by the original musical duo Ajay-Atul, with Hindi lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Janhvi and Ishaan bring vivacity and joy to the picturisation. While team Dhadak has been largely praised, the scenario wouldn’t be complete without some ‘expert comments’ on social media. Users were quick to get into comparison mode, with some pointing out that the adaptation of the celebratory song does not match up to the original.

Here are samples of the reactions…

One user used a picture of Ajay Devgn holding up a gun to his head, with the caption “Every Marathi after listening to Zingaat”.

Another pointed out that ‘Zingaat…’ is an “awesome recreation as far as audio is concerned”. However, it was felt that the picturisation and dance could have been more energetic. Ishaan Khatter was found alright but Janhvi Kapoor’s supposed lack of expressions was commented upon.

“It has mad Marathi vibes for a movie set in Rajasthan,” pointed out one user, adding, “I want to like the new Zingaat but it just feels so wrong... that fun is gone with the Hindi version.”

Yet another thanked God that Karan hadn’t made a remake of Bhojpuri number ‘Lollipop lagelu…’  “or he would ruin that too!”

Team Dhadak has been prepared to be judged. In an earlier interview Janhvi had declared, “I was blown away by Sairat. I'm well-aware that we can't touch upon something as pure as that. It's just such a universal subject, and it can be recreated and represented in so many ways. Dhadak is our tribute to Sairat.”

Here’s hoping the trolls see it in the same spirit!
