Ranbir Kapoor doesn't need anyone's advice on films: Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor go a long way back. The two actors started their filmi careers by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali and later on made their Bollywood debut with his film Saawariya opposite each other. That was in 2007, the two never came together for another film since then. However, now the two are once again sharing screen space in Sanju, Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt. From the trailer, Sonam and Ranbir’s chemistry is crackling but her character has been kept under wraps and it is not revealed yet whose part she is playing.

During media interactions, Sonam said that it was a ‘happy reunion of sorts’, sharing screen space with Ranbir once again after a decade. However, she refuted that they ever had a fallout and maintained that they always shared a good bond which was also proven by Ranbir’s attendance at Sonam’s wedding reception. Talking about her equation with Ranbir, Sonam told a leading daily that they were always in touch and are friends. She said, “It’s just that they didn’t get a film to do in these years.” She clarified her statement saying, “Ranbir always does lead roles, and I also want to do leading roles, so it never worked out.”

Talking about Ranbir’s checkered career graph of late, Sonam told the daily, “Ranbir doesn’t need anyone’s advice. He is very smart and one of the finest actors in the industry today. Why does he need anyone’s advice? He has never really given me any advice.” Sonam and Ranbir’s song Tu Badhiya Main Bhi Badhiya is ruling the charts with its retro sound and funny take. Sonam’s role in Sanju is not revealed yet and from the trailer one can deduce that she is playing a mix of several girlfriends of Sanjay from his younger days.

Talking about her role in the film, Sonam said that she always want to work with great directors who don’t reduce a female character to second fiddle. She said, “Raju sir is someone I have always admired and I’m happy that I got to do a small role in this biopic.” She also said that since Sanjay and her dad Anil Kapoor have been friends, she had known him since she was a kid.

Sonam has always maintained that she does not mind a small role as long as it’s a pivotal one. She said, “I don’t mind doing smaller roles as long as I have something substantial to do in that screen time.” Sonam did Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in which she had a small role but that makes the difference in the main protagonist’s life. She also did PadMan in which she had a supporting role but a substantial one at that.
