Dhadak trailer: Six reasons it is heart-warming and heart-wrenching at the same time

Does the much awaited Dhadak trailer live up to expectations? Absolutely, and then some! Here’s what we are crushing on…

Little dreams

The painfully young and innocent couple, Madhukar and Parthvi, share their dreams for each other and it is touching. He tells her, “One day I will build a big mansion for you.” She quips, “I don’t want a mansion, I want a home – our home.” While they are unaware of what lies ahead, our knowledge that their little dream of happiness will meet a heinous end, lends the lines an irony and sadness that is heart-wrenching.

Sparks fly

The chemistry between the lead pair is palpable. She is the cool, unflappable upper class girl in her demeanour and words. He, her eager and absolute fan. At one point she challenges him in class, “Why are you acting strange since yesterday?” He mutters quietly, “Nothing.” She counters, “So why aren’t you looking at me?” He tells her he has been watching her, but she insists he isn’t watching her properly. At this point, he launches off into a detailed description about the dress she was wearing yesterday and her braided hair, adding, “Today you are in a suit with open hair, if this isn’t proper what is?” Never underestimate a young lover’s observational powers!

Love’s Declaration

She tells him those three little words – “Madhu, I love you.” And demands that he tells them back to her. He smiles and reveals he’s feeling shy. She’s amazed, and threatens to slap him. Quickly he lets slip, “I love you too!” When he later asks her for a pappi (a kiss), she teasingly asks, “Puppy? A little dog?”

Dancing Joy

Their exuberance is there to see as they energetically dance to the popular ‘Zingat…’ track, made famous in the original Marathi Sairat. The sheer liveliness and joie de vivre whipped up by this song is contagious, as the young lovers express their heady delight in life and love.

Shadow of Violence

The violence erupts as we know it will, as the intimacy between them increases. He is picked up by the police, lackeys of her father, a powerful politician. She is thrown into home imprisonment. She uses a gun to buy their freedom, and the pair manages to escape the city. A new life beckons and he asks who will cook in their new house, him or her? She has it all planned out, informing that he will and while he is at it, he must go easy on the ghee. She has a figure to maintain, you see! The shadow of death will loom, but right now it’s time to celebrate life and love!
