Sonam Kapoor on trolls attacking Swara Bhasker: Stop trying to spread mischief and hate'

Shashanka Ghosh’s coming of age film Veere Di Wedding that stars Kareena Kapoor-Khan, Sonam K Ahuja, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania in the lead roles, has been praised for being one of the few female-centric Bollywood films. But ever since its release, the third highest opener movie of 2018 has also been hogging the limelight for the masturbation scene enacted by the 'not-so-sanskari' Swara Bhasker (as per the social media).

While Swara took on the trolls with her usual savagery, her BFF Sonam too came out in support of her. Claiming that Swara was being trolled for having an opinion of her own, she had said, “I think people just like to troll her because she has an opinion and a point of view and I guess that shows how much they love her because the other side of hate is always love, so Swara you have a lot of lovers!,” she said.

But now in a recent Twitter post, the Neerja actress has clarified that she supported Swara for the scene in Veere Di Wedding and not for her comments on Pakistan. Sonam wrote, “My defence of her has nothing to do with her comments on Pakistan! Get your fact right and stop trying to spread mischief and hate!”

For those who are caught unaware, Swara had called Pakistan a non-secular state after VDW was banned in the country. “They’re (Pakistan) a non-secular state. I’m not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state – I don’t understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan,” she said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Veere Di Wedding has been faring well at the box-office and has collected Rs 48.03 crore since it released on June 1.
