Milind Soman's wife Ankita Konwar calls out racism against people from Northeast

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, an Indian weightlifter, won a silver medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. Her victory was celebrated by the entire nation. As Mirabai was being praised, Milind Soman's wife, Ankita Konwar, noticed the existing issue of racism. Ankita highlighted that how people subject Northeasterners to racism and harassment by calling them names and when they win a medal, they become 'Indians'.

In a tweet, Ankita wrote, "If you’re from Northeast India, you can become an Indian ONLY when you win a medal for the country. Otherwise we are known as “chinky” “Chinese” “Nepali” or a new addition “corona”. India is not just infested with casteism but racism too. Speaking from my experience."

Neha Kakkar to skip Indian Idol 12 finale

One of the longest-running reality shows, Indian Idol 12, will be getting its winner on August 15. After clearing several obstacles including lockdown, controversies and more, the contestants will be performing with the who's who of the music industry on the grand finale. Indian Idol 12 started with Vishal Dadlani, Neha Kakkar and Himesh Reshammiya as the judges. However, when the set was relocated to Daman for some months because of the second COVID-19 lockdown, Vishal and Neha chose to take a break.

Neha's sister Sonu Kakkar took over the responsibility whereas Vishal was replaced by Anu Malik. Now, as the finale is inching closer, it has come to light that Neha will be skipping the shoot. A source close to the development told a leading daily, "Neha has been judging Indian Idol for the past seasons and wanted to take a break. She has worked hard for many years and achieved a lot. She now wanted to spend some quality time with her husband Rohanpreet. That is one of the reasons why she did not continue judging Indian Idol after the team returned to Mumbai. Her sister Sonu has taken over and she will continue on the show till the end."

It is still unclear whether Vishal will join the team or not.
