Will Smith and Kevin Hart come on-board for ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ remake

Will Smith and Kevin Hart will star in the remake of the classic John Hughes’ 1987 road trip comedy Planes, Trains & Automobiles. The two actors’ production houses-Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Hart’s Hartbeat Productions will produce the film. Ayesha Carr has been roped in to write the script of the film which will be her feature debut. She is better known for her work on Brooklyn 99 and the upcoming Hulu series Woke.

The original 1987 film starred Steve Martin and John Candy. The mismatched duo are forced to become bunkmates and traveling partners in a desperate bid to reach home for Thanksgivings after their flights gets cancelled. Their journey home is peppered with misadventures, holiday disasters and misgivings.

Hart confirmed the report by posting on Instagram. He wrote, “I’ve been patiently waiting for the right project to team up with my brother with. We found it and are developing it together with our teams. This will be huge for us and the city of brotherly love aka Philadelphia..... let’s goooooo @willsmith.”

Hart and Smith are producing the film alongside Westbrook Studios co-president and head of motion pictures Jon Mone and HartBeat’s president of film and television Bryan Smiley.
