The prestigious and dazzling 77th Golden Globe Awards 2020 kicked off in an exciting way on Sunday, January 5, 2020, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The stunning awards ceremony which is organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will honour not only films but also television shows. With the best of both the worlds receiving accolades, the awards hold a special importance in cinema. Among several prestigious wins, Tom Hanks received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his lasting and strong impact on cinema over the years.
Soon after stepping up on the stage to collect the trophy, Tom took a moment to compose himself. With a lump in his throat, the actor thanked his family for standing with him like a strong pillar. He then named the directors he has worked with, including, Penny Marshall, Nora Ephron and Clint Eastwood. Furthermore, he credited those with whom he has worked in the past. Upon hearing his speech and see him cry, his fans were surely in tears.
Tom has been conferred with the Golden Globes Award eight times in the past. This year, he was nominated for the Best Actor In A Supporting Role, for his work as TV icon Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Speaking of Cecil B. DeMille Award, previously, celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Denzel Washington, Sidney Poitier, George Clooney, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg have been honoured with it.
