Watch: Anjelina Jolie and Michelle Pfeiffer are ready to battle in the first trailer of Disney's 'Maleficent: Mistress of Evil'

One can never be too careful, can they? Disney has released a new trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and fans are waiting to see the battle brewing! The sequel to the 2014 adaptation on Sleeping Beauty has Angelina Jolie reprise her role as the evil but misunderstood sorceress Maleficent.

Now having taken Aurora under her wing, Maleficent has become protective. When Aurora finds a suitor she’d like to marry, a battle between Maleficent and the girls’s soon-to-be-mother-in-law Queen Ingrith, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, ensues and we cannot wait to see the two mothers battle it out! And on top of all that, this trailer reveals that the film also aims to dig deeper into Maleficent’s origin story by teasing of a whole family of fairies.

Later in the clip, Ingrith tells Aurora, “Maleficent is a threat to everyone. We will do our best to protect you.”Sam Riley and Lesley Manville are among returning characters, while Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor all joined the cast. Harris Dickinson is replacing Brenton Thwaites as Prince Phillip from the first film. This trailer does the sequel no favours, as it brings to mind another star-studded fantasy sequel that landed with a thud - The Huntsman: Winter’s War.

Maleficent 2 has been in development for years, with Disney basically holding the door open for when/if Angelina ever wanted to return. She finally said yes, but times have changed. Maleficent was one of the first Disney live-action 'remakes; to be released, but we’re now in the wake of mega-nostalgia successes like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is all set to hit theatres on October 18, 2019. Check out the trailer here:
