In pics: Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning goof up on the sets of Maleficent 2

Angelina Jolie is all set to reprise her role as Maleficent alongside Elle Fanning who will step into the shoes of Princess Aurora again. This time joining the star cast will be another legion of high-profile actors such as Michelle Pfeiffer who will portray Queen Ingrith along with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, Robert Lindsay, and Harris Dickinson as Prince Phillip.

Kickstarting the shoot today, which also marks the release of the film four years ago, naturally, Elle Fanning with reel mother Angelina Jolie had to whip up something cray-cray.

Fanning shared a picture of her photobombed by Maleficent's horns. And if that wasn't it, she further shared a picture of her and Jolie, who by the way, is dressed to the nail in all her maleficent glory.

Maleficent is a retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty from the antagonist's point of view. The film came right after Alice in Wonderland when classic retellings were a major hit in theatres. Naturally, the film saw good business at the box office and before we knew, Maleficent II was in the works!

Last time we saw our horn-headed enchantress, she was allied with the girl she originally hated and had changed her view of the world completely. The film will pick up several years after the events of the same. Maleficent II will explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.

Additional cast members returning from the 2014 film include Sam Riley as Diaval; Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton as the pixie Knotgrass; Juno Temple as the pixie Thistlewit; and Academy Award nominee Lesley Manville as the pixie Flittle.

Helmed by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales co-director Joachim Rønning, the film is expected to hit the screens in the summer of 2020.
