J K Rowling wins more fans after her response to Kashmiri schoolgirl’s tweet

There are perks to doing one’s homework well – look how it paid off in the case of a young schoolgirl from Kashmir!

Apparently, as part of her assignment, 12-year-old Kulsum from Jammu and Kashmir had expressed how inspired she was by Harry Potter’s J K Rowling. Kulsum, who hails from the Doda region, wrote that she was encouraged by the author not only because of her writing but because of how she faced umpteen difficulties without giving up. The young student also asked Allah to bless the writer with a long life so that she herself could meet her when she grew up.

This simple yet touching assignment went places after it was tweeted by Kulsum's teacher and also by the director of the school. The teacher, Sabbah Haji Baji wrote, “Dear @jk_rowling. Kulsum, 12, a first generation English learner from the Himalayas would like to meet you someday. So come visit us at Haji Public School.”

Yet no one was quite prepared for the tweet to reach the eyes of the author herself…and for her generous response! Soon Rowling herself replied to the director Sabbah Haji's tweet, requesting for Kulsum's full name in order to send her something. The author tweeted in return, “Please, can you send me Kulsum’s full name by DM? I’d love to send her something.”

Kulsum's teacher later put out a tweet showing the moment when they told her the news. Rowling’s warm gesture has won her, even more, love and gratitude on social media, as tweets flooded in hailing her as the best author and person of all times.

It is a special moment indeed for Kulsum, who has three siblings and is the daughter of a farmer couple in Breswana. A first generation learner, she also shared that her brother is in class III in the same school and they speak English together.

Thrilled about the response from Rowling, Kulsum said, “Sabbah ma’am told me that J K Rowling had seen my essay and that she had replied. I am so happy. If I get to meet J K Rowling, I will tell her she is wonderful.”

As for that precious little tweet, it will apparently be framed and preserved at the school.
