The trailer of Priyanka Chopra’s second Hollywood film A Kid Like Jake is out and has been well loved by the audience. However, the Indian actress does not have a very meaty role in the movie and appears very briefly in the trailer as well, but she has maintained that it is not a Priyanka Chopra film per se, but an important film where she is just a part of. The movie stars Claire Danes, Jim Parsons, Octavia Spencer and Priyanka in lead roles.

The trailer follows the heartwarming life of a married couple (Parsons and Danes) living in Brooklyn who faces a daunting challenge when they learn that their four-year-old son is different from the rest of the kids as he is more interested in princesses and fairytales than race cars. This makes the couple rethink their parental roles.

Oscar-nominated Octavia Spencer plays the role of Jake’s kindergarten teacher who breaks the news of his gender-nonconforming play to his parents and the fact that this might not be a passing phase in the child’s life. The trailer shows Jake playing dressing up and loves fairy tales and the fact that he is different makes his parents rethink their parental roles.

In the trailer, Priyanka is seen as a friend of the parents and appears for five seconds. “Kindergarten is so hard for a child, you know, who...” says PeeCee at dinner with her husband (Aasif Mandvi) and Jake’s parents. However, Claire cuts her in the middle of her sentence with ‘Who what?’
Jake, essayed by child artiste Leo James Davis, is a delight to watch and a show stealer.
The film has been premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2018 and received a standing ovation from the audience.
Priyanka had earlier expressed how proud she has been to be a part of A Kid Like Jake, a story that humanizes the struggle of parents trying to do right by their kid. For the uninitiated, the film by director Silas Howard and written by Daniel Pearle is based on his own 2013 play of the same name.
