Some heartening news in this digital age… Christopher Nolan, the Oscar-nominated director has finally arrived in Mumbai, to speak about the enduring significance of celluloid. The Dunkirk maker will participate in a discussion with visual artist Tacita Dean, about the need to preserve film for the ages.
The director arrived today afternoon with his family and is currently residing in The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Colaba.
Indian filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, who is hosting the event, is optimistic about Nolan’s presence and conviction influencing current attitudes and motivating people to engage in a culture of film preservation.
Reframing the Future of Film, the three-day film event taking place from March 30 to April 1, will see Nolan sharing how the celluloid and digital mediums can co-exist. Dungarpur revealed that Nolan prefers shooting films in celluloid and he will discuss the start of celluloid and how and why it should be supported. He adds, “With their visit, along with the participation of some of the who’s who of our Indian film industry, hopefully, the talk and encouragement of shooting and projecting film in celluloid will start.”
The session, Reframing the Future of Film: In Conversation with Christopher Nolan, Tacita Dean and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, will take place on Sunday, April 1 at the NCPA in Mumbai.Nolan is also expected to meet with several Bollywood celebrities including Farhan Akhtar, Aamir Khan, Shyam Benegal, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, among others. Naturally, cinema will be the central topic of discussion. Of course, it will not be all work – an informal bash will also be hosted by the industry for Nolan, which will give the Hollywood filmmaker a taste of B-town’s party-hearty side.
