Mission Impossible trailer: Now Henry Cavil is gunning for Tom Cruise as well

The new trailer is teeming with explosions and even a helicopter crash

You might have known and loved Henry Cavill for his Superman avatar. But the man is anything but heroic here, playing an assassin in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Cavill sees a target painted on Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team of elite spies at the Impossible Missions Force – and takes his own mission forward. This, when the Impossible Missions Force is trying to prevent a nuclear holocaust from destroying the world! For those wondering, the main villain is still played by Sean Harris.

The new trailer offers a fresh look at Paramount Pictures’ and Skydance’s highly anticipated sixth Mission Impossible film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout. It also suggests that this could just be the best MI film so far.

In a world of CG-propelled hits, the film has been positioned as a realistic watch with its stunning practical stunts and terrific yet realistic action, combined with a compelling story. Teeming with stunts, explosions and Tom Cruise exhibiting some seriously risky behaviour, you will want to hit the replay button for scenes of Tom Cruise crashing a motorbike, a van and even a helicopter!

Director McQuarrie had earlier shared that Fallout would be more character-based than some previous entries. “I don’t want to string together a bunch of action scenes, I want to actually deal with character. So I put Ethan in a bunch of complicated moral quandaries, and I’m trying to find ways to connect them–and then, ironically, the way to connect them was through giant action scenes.”

Pointing out with delicious irony that the best intentions often come back to haunt you, the film finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Angela Bassett and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. Come July 27, we will be queuing up!
