The trailer of Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s much-awaited film Dhadak was launched at an event in Mumbai recently. The film set in Rajasthan is an official adaptation of Nagraj Manjule’s 2017 hit Sairat. The 3-minute long trailer takes us to Janhvi and Ishaan’s journey of love and the innocent story with its old-world charm has totally won our hearts.
One look at the trailer is enough to gather that Dhadak is a story of love between an upper caste girl and a lower caste boy, lightened at heart to suit the needs of the commercial audience. Set against the backdrop of Rajasthan, the makers have tried their best to highlight the culture and the language of the region. From the beautiful locales of Udaipur to the stunning costumes, the vibrant spirit of the Mewari people is quite evident in the trailer.
For Janhvi’s look, we applaud ace designer Manish Malhotra and his sheer craftsmanship for creating such stunning ensembles for her. Bright and fresh shades from the land of camels and its wonderful native fauna are beautifully captured in her looks. A lot of purples, pinks, and reds are used for her outfits mostly made of fine cotton and are accentuated with Mothra, Laharia and Chunari prints.
Be it bandhani printed dupatta along with block print kurtis or Bandhej ghagra cholis, her outfits depict the real crux of Rajasthani attire. In fact, we cannot take our eyes off the white mirror-work lehenga Janhvi dons in the trailer.
her makeup subtle with blush tones, her looks are accessorized with silver and white metal jhumkas and earrings with stunning motifs.
On the other hand, Ishaan is seen wearing clothes which seem to be mostly made of coarser cloth. A lot of greens, reds, and blues are used for his costumes. Denim paired with shirts along with sadri and Nehru jackets seem to be his patent attire. Tie and dye and bagru block prints are used for his outfits. In fact, at certain instances, he looks charming in his printed jodhpuris with intricate embroidery that showcase the ambiance of the northwestern state. Both earlobes pierced with studs, sided parted hair amplify the boyish charm to Ishaan’s character.
Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan and co-produced by Zee Studios and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, is slated to release on July 20.
