Exclusive: Sonakshi Sinha starrer 'Khandaani Shafakhana' explores the extraordinary dreams of an ordinary girl in a madcap world

Sonakshi Sinha is currently shooting for a slice-of-life entertainer in Punjab. The film that also stars Varun Sharma, Annu Kapoor, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Nadira Babbar and rapper Badshah in pivotal roles, is being directed by debutante Shilpi Dasgupta who has been an assistant director on Subhash Ghai’s Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor starrer – the 2008 drama Yuvvraaj.

Although the film went on floors last month and half of the shooting has already been done, the makers haven’t revealed any details on its story yet and all that we know is that it “explores the extraordinary dreams of an ordinary girl in a madcap world”. Now PeepingMoon.com has got some exclusive scoop on the film.

We have learned that the film is actually a satirical take on a taboo topic and opens minds about women’s sexual problems. Titled Khandaani Shafakhaana, the film is about a small-town girl who inherits a sex clinic. Sonakshi plays a happy-go-lucky Punjabi girl who runs the clinic while Annu Kapoor who played Dr. Chaddha who runs a sperm clinic in Vicky Donor, plays her boss. Varun Sharma will be seen playing Sonakshi’s brother in the film.

A young girl running a sex clinic in a small town is quite scandalous and taboo and this film, our sources say, touches the topic using humour to make it engaging to the audiences. Based in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, the film sees Sonakshi’s character striking a balance between her family and her dreams.

Written by Gautam Mehra and jointly produced by Bhushan Kumar, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and Mahaveer Jain, the film is said to be full of fun and emotions. It will be wrapped up in March and is expected to release later this year.

Talking about the film, Sonakshi had recently said, “It’s my director, Shilpi Dasgupta’s debut film, but it doesn’t really feel like one. It’s a wonderful story about a street-smart, independent girl making her way through the many challenges that life throws at her. You can call it a slice-of-life or a coming-of-age film.”
