'Curiosity to know about the ending kept the film alive,' says Tabu on AndhaDhun receiving a nomination at IFFM 2019

AndhaDhun was undoubtedly the smartest, finest and complex thrillers made in Bollywood till date. The tale of a supposedly blind man Akash won the game with critics as well as box office numbers across domestic and international markets alike. Now, as the film is about to be screened at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), Tabu, who played a central role in the film, spoke about the climax and how the director Sriram Raghavan was perfectly okay with different interpretations about it. The actress, during an interview with a leading daily, said that even she was intrigued to find out what the ending of the film indicated. She added that when quizzed Sriram on the same, he didn't decode it for her.

“I want to understand what really happened, but Sriram is not ready to reveal. He is okay with any theory about the story. I also believe what you see is what you think. As far as I am concerned, Simi (her character) died and Ayushmann Khurrana is actually blind in the end. Whether he is lying or telling the truth we don’t know,” Tabu told during the interview.

Speaking about the audience reaction regarding the climax, Tabu said the curiosity to find out the actually ending had them discussing and debating. She said this element of surprise has managed to keep the film alive even after a year of its release. “It’s exciting because of the fact that people still discuss and debate about it. They are curious about the ending — what actually happened, who was telling the truth, who was lying, especially in the second half. That’s the most interesting part, which has kept this film alive,” Tabu added.

AndhaDhun was about Akash, a piano player pretending to be visually-impaired, unwittingly becomes entangled in a number of problems as he witnesses the murder of a former film actor. Ayushmann Khurrana played Akash. Tabu was Simi. AndhaDhun released across the nation on October 5, 2018.
