Apropos Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opting out of Anurag Kashyap’s proposed film Gulab Jamun, the question doing the rounds is whether Amitabh Bachchan too was part of this Sarvesh Mewara directorial as was widely discussed around August last year.
PeepingMoon.com sources say that, yes, Mr. B was on board too, and he was the first one to quit the film. Then Aishwarya and Abhishek. Gulab Jamun, which was slated to go on the floors this month, would have reunited the Bachchan couple on screen eight years after Mani Ratnam’s epic adventure Raavan in 2010. And if the casting had gone as Anurag planned, then it would have brought the Big B together with his son and daughter-in-law too eight years after they were last seen in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj the same year.
Gulab Jamun has been in the news for a good year-and-half. It tells the story of a three-generation family. And, sources say, Abhishek and Aishwarya were to play the younger version of Big B and his wife. Once they had come on board, Anurag reportedly reached out to the senior Bachchan who is believed to have suggested some changes to the script. Anurag got that done. But it is not known whether the actor then agreed to do Gulab Jamun and later changed his mind.
There is further talk that he might even have assured Anurag that he would get his wife Jaya Bachchan to be a part of the film but that juicy tidbit is mere hearsay. Now, as things stand, none of the Bachchans are acting in Gulab Jamun and nobody knows why Anurag’s film was hit by this exodus. Was the script an issue or is there more to this that anybody is willing to reveal or admit? The story goes that Big B informed the Gulab Jamun team first that he would no longer be able to work on the film as he had given his dates elsewhere.
