New York Magazine’s The Cut has taken down a defamatory article on Priyanka Chopra after it received widespread criticism and backlash by not only the common people on the social media but also by celebrities from Bollywood as well as Hollywood. The article was headlined “Is Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s Love for Real?” and called Priyanka a ‘scam artist’ who allegedly duped the young and impressionable Nick Jonas into marrying her while all he wanted was a fling.
The piece written by Mariah Smith went on to suggest that Nick married into a ‘’fraudulent relationship against his will’. After spewing venom in more than 1,000 words about the supposedly ‘fake’ relationship between Priyanka and Nick the writer went on to advice Nick, “Nick, if you’re reading this, find that horse and gallop away as fast as you can!” The writer received immense backlash on social media and so did the publication for carrying such a racist, sexist and ageist piece which is nothing short of a figment of imagination of the author.
Check out the now removed article below:
The Cut issued an apology and the now removed article shows an Editor’s Note: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. The text at the bottom reads, “Upon further editorial review, we found this story did not meet our standards. We’ve removed it and apologize.”
The article was slammed by many personalities including Nick’s brother Joe Jonas and his fiancée Sophie Turner. Bollywood celebrities like Arjun Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Sona Mohapatra, Ayuba Adebayo and many others criticized the article and some even suggested Priyanka to sue the magazine for defamation. This is wildly inappropriate and totally disgusting. Very disappointed that The Cut would give anyone a platform to spew such bullshit. https://t.co/iYKaifKJP6

Apologize? She should sue you for the defamation. That was sexist, racist and disgusting. To even think a woman wrote this about another woman.. 😕 https://t.co/Ej5dtnWK3I

I know @priyankachopra personally & I’m fairly certain @nickjonas hasn’t been kidnapped & forced into a union of love… @NYMag u have an unhappy opinionated racist frustrated journalist who’s gone on n on about 2 people who by choice have gotten married. For a publication that “shows women’s what they are made of” @TheCut has a lot to answer for . The article on @priyankachopra was sexist , racist and disgusting. Also it’s written by a woman which is so sad. It reeks of envy and bitterness. @mRiah shame on you! https://t.co/bmbbX7LrAT

Deeply disgusting. To character assassinate a hardworking, driven, achiever like Priyanka Chopra in this warped, petty manner & for @TheCut to publish such a low-brow piece is the lowest of the lows. “Priyanka’s plan to make this Nick Jonas opportunity her forever bitch” ?!!? Sick https://t.co/jV6bGChwhY

Depressed with the state of the world & current affairs? Here’s some good ol’ fashioned puerile filth published by @TheCut 2 add some pointless venom 2 ur day. Also someone invite @mRiah to an Indian wedding 🙄🙄🙄 Might assuage some of her misguided angst! #yellowjournalism https://t.co/3q8cPMElrp

The Cut issued an apology through a tweet but the deed was done. Its public apology was also not spared by netizens.
But it made it on your site and stayed there. You claim to be a 'woman's website' yet you tore one down for no reason. Do better. https://t.co/i8yeTMHB9X

Priyanka and Nick tied the knot on December 1 and 2 in a fairytale wedding at Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The two looked absolutely breathtaking in their wedding finery and looked oh-so-in-love. Their Delhi reception that was held last night was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi too who wished the newlyweds a happy married life and blessed them.
