International Emmy Awards 2019: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's 'McMafia' defeats his 'Sacred Games' in the category of 'Best Drama Series'

The nominations for the prestigious 2019 International Emmy Awards were declared in the month of September and it was indeed a celebratory moment for Bollywood as popular web series including Sacred Games, Lust Stories and The Remix made it to the list. After a long wait, on Monday night in New York that is Tuesday early morning in India, the awards function took place with Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Kubbra Sait in attendance.

Speaking of the nominations and awards, Netflix's anthology of four stories, Lust Stories and crime thriller, Sacred Games were nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series and Best Drama Series categories, respectively. However, none of them managed to take home the award and lost to Safe Harbour and McMafia. Although, Nawazuddin, who was at the awards function to cheer for Sacred Games, was left delighted as his show McMafia won the trophy for the Best Drama Series. Radhika lost out to Marina Gera for the Best Performance by an Actress.

Inspired by author Vikram Chandra's best-selling novel, Sacred Games traced a trail of betrayal, crime, passion and a thrilling chase through Mumbai's underbelly featuring Saif Ali Khan as Sartaj Singh and Nawazuddin as Ganesh Gaitonde. Lust Stories is an anthology of four stories that shed light on modern relationships from the viewpoint of the Indian woman. The show starred Radhika, Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani, Bhumi Pednekar, Manisha Koirala, Neha Dhupia, Sanjay Kapoor, Akash Thosar and Neil Bhoopalam in the lead roles.
