Lupita Nyong'o writes a moving tribute for Chadwick Boseman, says 'he did not give up on life, life gave up on him'

Lupita Nyong’o has written a stirring tribute to her late Black Panther co-star Chadwick Boseman. Lupita called Chadwick a man whose power will ‘reverberate for generations’. In a heartfelt post she wrote, “I write these words from a place of hopelessness, to honour a man who had great hope, the news of his passing is a punch to my gut every morning." Lupita’s words come 11 days after Chadwick’s untimely and tragic death to colon cancer which he had been fighting for four years.

Lupita played Nakia opposite Chadwick’s T’Challa/Black Panther in the 2018 Marvel superhero film. Sharing a picture with him, she captioned it as, “For the beloved #ChadwickBoseman. #TakeYourTimeButDontWasteYourTime.” In her note, Lupita wrote, “I am aware that we are all mortal, but you come across some people in life that possess an immortal energy, that seem like they have existed before, that are exactly where they are supposed to be-here!...that seem ageless…Chadwick was one of those people.”

She recalled the time she worked with him on Black Panther and wrote, “He loved, honoured and respected that body, doing more with it than most. In so doing, he took the risk to be alive, fully alive. So it seems it was life that gave up on Chadwick long before Chadwick  gave up on life…When I was around Chadwick, I wanted to be better, less petty, more purposeful…He was fuelled by love, not fear. He cared so much about humanity, about Black people, about his people. He activated our pride. His power lives on and will reverberate for generations to come. Chadwick’s death is something that I can neither take in nor take in my stride right now. Perhaps with time…I’m going to take my time…and in his honor, I promise not to waste my time. I hope you will do the same.”

Chadwick’s demise left everyone in shock and made people salute his work ethic and the lone, silent and personal battle he fought with the disease.
