Watch: James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ BTS featurette reveals characters of Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, John Cena and others

A behind-the-scenes trailer of The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn was shared at DC FanDome and it sure promises to be quite a visual fest. The upcoming film will feature DC villains that were rounded by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) for the Task Force X in the previous 2016 film Suicide Squad. The film sees Harlet Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and leader Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) reprise their roles along with a host of new and interesting characters.

In the BTS video, Gunn said that The Suicide Squad is by far the biggest movie he has worked on and looking at the ensemble cast we tend to agree. A special DC FanDome fan poster was also revealed of the film. The Suicide Squad also stars Idris Elba as Bloodsport, wrestler-actor John Cena as Peacemaker, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Pete Davidson as Blackguard and Sean Gunn as  Weasel.

Other characters in the film are Daniel Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Steve Agee as King Shark, Mayling Ng as Mongal, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Juan Diego Botto as Presidente General Silvio Luna, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as   Javelin, Joaquín Cosío as Mayor General Mateo Suarez, Storm Reid as Tyla, and Jennifer Hollans as Emilia Harcourt. The film also stars Taika Waititi.

Producer Peter Safran had previously said that the film is a complete reboot and not a direct sequel of the 2016 film of the same name. The Suicide Squad is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021.
