Mark Ruffalo lambasts Brazilian President for his claim that Leonardo DiCaprio is funding organizations responsible for Amazon fires

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro recently ruffled quite a few feathers when he made allegations against Leonardo DiCaprio for apparently funding two non-profit organizations that are supposedly held responsible for the deadly Amazon Rainforest fires. Jair took to his Facebook page for a live session and alleged that Leonardo was collaborating with the burning of the Amazon and that he was waging a campaign against Brazil. However, he did not provide any evidence and it was Leonardo’s environmental organization Earth Alliance that had pledged $5million to help protect the Amazon after the dastard summer fires.

The actor took to his Instagram to refute the President’s claims who has also been at the receiving end of many organizations and the UN. However, Mark Ruffalo has come out in support of Leonardo against the President’s allegations. Taking to his Twitter page he wrote, “Bolsonaro and his ilk are scapegoating the very people protecting the Amazon from the fires he himself has allowed to happen. Ask yourself: what has recently changed in Brazil to have this happen now? Bolsonaro and his (non)environmental policies."

Leo had earlier written on Instagram, “The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth's warming in check.” He wrote on his Instagram account defying the allegations and wrote, “The future of these irreplaceable ecosystems is at stake and I am proud to stand with the groups protecting them. While worthy of support, we did not fund the organizations targeted.”
