Honey Boy Trailer: Shia LaBeouf delves deep into the his troubled childhood in this semi-autobiographical film

The new trailer of Shia LaBeouf’s semi-autobiographical film Honey Boy is here and it shows a young child actor’s troubled life. LaBeouf who has written the screenplay of the film shares his own experiences of a young actor's stormy childhood and early adult years as he struggles to reconcile with his father and deal with his mental health. The film stars Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges in lead roles along with LaBeouf himself as his own father, James Lort, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon.

The trailer starts in 2005 with Hedges, LaBeouf’s stand-in named as Otis Lort. He shouts ‘wait, wait’ before being blown back on a film set. The film has reference to LaBeouf’s films such as Holes and Transformers. The trailer gives a sneak peek into the darkest parts of LaBeouf’s childhood. Natasha Lyonne plays his mother and his ex (or possibly current) girlfriend, FKA Twigs makes her debut in the film and stars as a childhood friend and neighbour.

The trailer is full of instances from LaBeaouf’s life, like Shia-Lukas-Otis running from an explosion on the sets of Transformers to shooting iconic Even Stevens scenes, and various tabloid pictures that got him into trouble. However, the bullying and abuse is apparent and leaves a bad taste in your mouth as you see LaBeouf playing his own father and threatening Lucas with the dire consequences of failure.

The film is produced and directed by Alma Har’el. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Anita Gou and Christopher Leggett also are the producers of Honey Boy. Honey Boy is produced by Automatik and Delirio, in association with Stay Gold Features, Kindred Spirit and Red Crown Productions. Honey Boy releases on November 8.
