Dating rumors are far from the truth: Emilia Clarke on her relationship status with Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harrington

Despite their on-screen characters being a little more than friends on the hit show Game of Thrones, actors Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke have developed a special bond of friendship through the course of making the show.

After driving the fans worldwide in a frenzy on sharing a passionate kiss for a Rolling Stone photo shoot in 2012, rumours spread like wildfire that the two had gotten together in real life as well. The actors maintained that their bond is almost sibling-like with Emilia being best friends with Kit's wife Rose Leslie, who also starred in the hit fantasy show.

This moment was unforgettable. It was a small crew on that day, just a few of us out in the field. The chemistry between these four was huge, as you can see... I asked them to kiss, I suppose love was in the air, & I was just lucky enough to be there. #kitharington #emiliaclarke #gameofthrones #rollingstone #hbo PS

Emilia addressed the plethora of rumours of them dating and said that the rumours “literally makes me cry, it's so far from the truth”, claiming that they have never been more than friends ever. In an interview in 2018, Kit confirmed that the only romance between the two was on-screen, "If you've known someone for six years and they're best friends with your girlfriend, and you're best friends with them, there is something unnatural and strange about doing a love scene."

The actors also decided to have some fun on sets when their characters finally did get together on the show in the penultimate season. As Clarke shared in an interview, "The first scene we had together, we both just started laughing. Why are you looking at me this strange way and saying these strange lines? You’re my friend!"  Kit also revealed, "I remember our first scene together was bizarre. We kind of looked at each other and tried not to laugh." To make the situation even worse, Kit would often pretend to vomit after filming scenes of them kissing.

Maybe not in real life, but the fans have something to look forward to on-screen with the current season of the hit series being aired on Hotstar every Monday.
