Here's why Burberry is burning outfits worth 28 million pounds every year

Designer fashion label Burberry burns 28 million pounds worth of its luxury outfits every year to stop wrong people from buying them. While other brands indulge in selling off the excess stock in clearance sales, Burberry does not believe in such activities. The brand rather burns the extra stock to protect the brand and to prevent it from being sold at discounted prices on the grey market and to the wrong people, reports a leading UK daily.

According to a report by another leading daily, the upmarket clothing line, famous for its checked design, has destroyed 90 million pounds of products in the past five years. Burberry says it uses special incinerators which harness the energy.

The brand said it took the issue of waste extremely seriously. The company also said the practice of destroying excess stock is common across the retail industry.
