Sony Pictures finally released one of its most awaited teaser for Venom. And while you can see Tom Hardy in all his grandeur as Eddie Brock, but the jet-black, toothy super-villain is… missing!

Throughout the trailer, we see some scientists working in a lab, an aerial shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, several shots of Hardy walking away from the camera, Michelle Williams looking very concerned, Hardy waking up in a CT scanner, scientists searching for something in the woods, Hardy running through the woods, Riz Ahmed in a lab, Hardy riding a motorcycle, and Hardy yelling and convulsing in a CT scanner. You’d think they’d be able to squeeze in a quick shot of Venom, right?

Not surprisingly enough, the marketing strategy obviously angered the fans. #BringVenomHome started trending on Twitter where everyone wanted Marvel Cinematic Universe to take the reigns on this one.

However, here’s why we think this might be a genius strategy! One must commend Sony for having a teaser out eight months before it’s release date. Also, it’s almost too clean for the talented director, Ruben Fleischer to unknowingly not have the titular antihero in the trailer. We’re assuming surely they have a trick or two up their sleeve.

The director earlier in an interview said, “I can promise you badass action, Venom’s dark humour, and I can also promise you an absolutely stunning performance by Tom Hardy,” Well, we’ll give him the benefit of doubt for now.

However, this teaser surely did disappoint a lot of fans out there with sans CG shots.

Venom marks Sony’s first superhero film to follow Spider-Man: Homecoming and its deal with Disney’s Marvel Studios to share the Spider-Man property. The studio emphasized Venom is not a spin-off to Homecoming, while other projects based on characters from Spider-Man‘s world are in the works. A standalone Venom film has been in development for over a decade. The film is expected to hit the screens on October 5 in the US & UK.
