'How you look externally is such a small, irrelevant part of what you are’, says Deepika Padukone on wearing prosthetics in ‘Chhapaak’

Deepika Padukone has been missing from the big screen after her film Padmaavat released in the first half of last year. The actor tied the knot with Ranveer Singh and took a break from work to prepare for her wedding. However, now she will soon be back on the big screen with a bang. She has already wrapped her ambitious project Chhapaak that sees her donning the producer’s hat. She plays the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in the film. During a recent interview to an international magazine, she spoke about the challenging aspect of her role as well as the fact that she was at complete ease wearing prosthetics and showcasing a disfigured burnt face onscreen.

Talking about the role in the film which is due next year, Deepika spoke about how unafraid she is to face up to difficult subjects. When asked about wearing prosthetics and confronted by her own scarred face, she told the magazine, “I felt like myself. It made me realize how you look externally is such a small, irrelevant part of what you are. I think people would expect me to be horrified. Or emotional. Or scared. But I was at complete ease with the way I was, with the way I looked and felt.”
