‘They can't live off the stuff their father has managed to do’, says Shah Rukh Khan on Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan entering Bollywood

Shah Rukh Khan has been ruling the Hindi film industry for 25 years now. King Khan is still extremely popular and the most well-known and beloved film star of Indian cinema across the globe. However, now that his children, son Aryan Khan, and daughter Suhana Khan have come of age they are also gearing to make their foray into Bollywood. The two-star kids are pursuing higher studies in acting and filmmaking. In a recent interview, Shah Rukh opened up about his children’s starry dreams and said that it was important for them to bring something new to films, something radical instead of just living off his legacy.

During the interview, he said that it is crucial for every creative person to bring something new to the film industry. Talking about his kids he said, “As actors and filmmakers, my kids, in case they wish to come in, they have to bring something new. They can't live off the stuff their father has managed to do. It's important they bring in something new and if I impose myself, they won't be able to. Let them go and bring in something radical and strange. Wrong, maybe. But it should be newer than what I have been able to give.”

He further said that he wants to refrain himself from imposing his ideas on Aryan and Suhana. He said, “I should not impose my ideas on them because mine are so set. Mine has now been almost fully cultivated... I am here to give my yeoman service to the Indian film industry with my cultivated amazing talent. Why just duplicate it to them? Let them learn something."

SRK also revealed about his children’s educational plans. Talking about Aryan he said, “He wants to be a filmmaker. We are friends, so I told him to learn whichever aspects of film he can go and learn... The other day I met (famous cinematographer) Ravi Varman, I told him go and learn camera with him. He has been doing that." Talking about collaborating on The Lion King where SRK voiced Mufasa and Aryan voiced Simba, the actor said, “We had seven-eight days of 8pm to 6am amazing time together. We used to go there at 8 and just jam... He used to play the guitar. There was this amazing set of people helping us with the dubbing, so we had a great time.”

Talking about Suhana, Shah Rukh said, “Suhana wants to act. She is right now at the French festival in Edinburgh. She is doing theatre, she has a coloured face and is doing some mime. It's good fun.” Aryan is currently studying at the University of Southern California and has another year and a half of film school left whereas Suhana recently graduated from Ardingly College in Sussex and will soon start going to Tisch School of The Arts in New York.
