Filmmaker Boney Kapoor has slammed DGP Rishiraj Singh’s claims that his wife Sridevi was murdered. Sridevi died last year due to accidental drowning in her hotel room in Dubai when only Boney was present with her. The Kerala DGP (Prisons) had made these arbitrary claims in a Kerala newspaper column. He mentioned in the column that Sridevi’s death 'might not have been due to accidental drowning'.

He had written in the column, “My friend and the late forensic expert Dr Umadathan had told me long back that Sridevi's death might have been a murder and not an accidental death. This he told me when I asked him about Sridevi's death, out of curiosity." He also added, "According to him, a person will never drown in one-foot deep water, however much he drinks. He will drown only if somebody holds his both legs and sinks his head into the water."

While there had been some concerns over the reason of her death, post-mortem reports from the UAE government stated that the actress had died due to accidental drowning in her bath-tub, following loss of consciousness. But now, a Kerala DGP's claims have introduced a new conspiracy theory. Rishiraj Singh, the Director General of Police (Prisons) in Kerala, has claimed that there was "circumstantial evidence" to suggest that Sridevi's demise was not due to accidental drowning but could have been murder. Quoting a forensic expert, Rishiraj Singh wrote in an article,"My friend and the late forensic expert Dr Umadathan had told me long back that Sridevi's death might have been a murder and not an accidental death. This he told me when I asked him about Sridevi's death, out of curiosity." "He also pointed out certain facts to back his claims. According to him, a person will never drown in one-foot deep water, however much he drinks. He will drown only if somebody holds his both legs and sinks his head into the water," he further wrote in his article in Kerala Kaumudi newspaper. Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor has reacted to the DGP's claims. "I don’t want to react to such stupid stories. There is no need to react because such stupid stories keep coming. However, Boney dismissed his claims as ‘fragment of imagination’. He told a website, “I don't want to react to such stupid stories. There is no need to react because such stupid stories keep coming. Basically, this is somebody's fragment of imagination."

Sridevi is survived by Boney and their two daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. The demise of the superstar came as a shock to the family as well as her millions of fans. Boney’s kids from his first wife Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor stood by the family as they grieved for the actress and since tehn have come closer by overcoming the barriers.
