Kalank: Makers reportedly constructed set worth Rs 10 crore in Mumbai to recreate Old Delhi palace

Karan Johar’s ambitious drama Kalank has been shot on an elaborate set as a structure worth Rs 10 crore was constructed at Mumbai’s Filmcity to recreate an Old Delhi palace, a leading daily reports. Directed by Abhishek Varman, Kalank stars Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur in the principle roles.

The teaser of Kalank was released on March 12 and it depicts a tale of eternal love in the backdrop of magnificent grandeur and palatial structures. Sources told the daily that Karan Johar, who has co-produced Kalank under his banner Dharma Productions, ensured that every aspect of the film was on point and represented required splendor.

“The Mumbai schedule which went on for a month was set in the studio. Karan who had conceptualised the film 15 years ago with his father, Yash Johar, didn’t want to compromise on any aspect,” the source told the daily.

Kalank is rumoured to be a love story, conceptualized in the backdrop of the partition, and began filming in May 2018. As per the report, Kalank has been shot over a period of 100 days in Hyderabad, Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, Kargil and Indore apart from Mumbai.

Kalank is scheduled to release on April 17.
