When Akshay Kumar's impromptu speech on AIDS at the premiere of Main Khiladi Tu Anari left Saif Ali Khan in splits

Akshay Kumar is one of those rare actors who take up social causes quite openly in his films and does not shy away from speaking on taboo topics. Films like PadMan, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha are a testimony to the fact that the man accentuates his words with actions as well. However, this change has been brought on by age, marriage, fatherhood and several other factors. In a recent interview, Akshay revealed an embarrassing yet funny situation at the start of his career when he was caught off guard and was asked to talk about AIDS.

At the premiere of his hit film Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Akshay was left dumbstruck when he was asked to give a speech on AIDS. Since he was unprepared and the blow came out of the blue he uttered the first words that came in his mind and that left his co-star Saif Ali Khan laugh out loud. Akshay revealed in the interview that the lead actors of the film that included himself, Saif, Shilpa Shetty and Raageshwari were flown to Delhi for a special premiere. However, the producer Ratan Jain forgot to inform them that the premiere was a charity for AIDS.

Recalling the funny incident, Akshay said, “I didn’t know that the premiere was for charity for AIDS and suddenly a guy comes on stage and says Ab Akshayji aapko AIDS ke baarein mein kuch kahenge.’ And you know, Mr Ratan Jain (producer) forgot to tell us. I can see Saif (Ali Khan) is laughing because he knows that I am clueless about what to say on this topic. And guess what I said? I can never forget what I said. I had no idea what to say and I just went and I said Doston, anari mat bano. Condom istemaal karo aur khiladi bano!’ Meanwhile, Saif has fallen down laughing."

We’re sure Saif would still be laughing at this funny incident and the impromptu speech of Akshay. However, we must give Khiladi Kumar credit for coming up with a brilliant catchphrase and punch line that also had the film’s name in it.
