Preity Vs. Ness: Charge sheet finally filed

The mills of justice grind slowly indeed…

A full three and a half years after Preity Zinta had registered a complaint of molestation and intimidation against Ness Wadia, the police have filed a charge sheet in a local court.
Apparently, the 500-page charge sheet against Ness Wadia was filed on Tuesday. During the filing of the charge sheet, Wadia was present in the court, which allowed him to go on a personal bond of Rs.20,000.

It may be recalled that in June 2014, Preity had lodged a complaint with the Marine Lines police. She had sent shockwaves across the country, when she accused her ex-boyfriend, Ness Wadia of molesting and intimidating her at Wankhede stadium on May 30 that year during an IPL match.

Submitting four photographs which allegedly showed 'bruise-like' marks on her right arm to the Mumbai police, Zinta had claimed that they had been caused when Ness grabbed her with force.

In the course of recording her statement later in the same month, Preity had also revealed to the police that Ness Wadia had abused the team staff over ticket distribution when she was in the air-conditioned box in Garware Pavilion. She claimed that she had then changed her seat and sat next to her friend Danish Merchant in the non-AC row below the railing. She also added that it was for the third time that she had been abused on the ground in front of team members.

In response, Ness had revealed the names of nine people who he claimed were present at the stadium at the time of the alleged incident. He had requested the police to record their statements. After he shared the contact details, the police were able to record their statements.

Incidentally, in August 2014, Gene Goodenough, an American who is married to Preity, had also sent his statement to the police via email, alleging that he had intervened and asked Wadia not to misbehave with Preity. Andrew Miller, another witness, had stated that while he saw the couple arguing, he did not see Wadia misbehave with Zinta as he was seated far away.

Both Zinta’s and Wadia's statements have since been recorded. Statements of several people have been attached to the charge sheet.
Incidentally, at the recent IPL bidding, both Kings XI Punjab co-owners, Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta sat the same table and seemed cordial.
