Breaking! Bombay High Court grants bail to Rhea Chakraborty; Showik Chakraborty's plea rejected

Today, October 7, the Bombay High Court granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty in an alleged drugs case related to Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise on June 14. The actress was taken into judicial custody on September 8 along with her brother Showik Chakraborty and Samuel Miranda. The Bombay High Court reportedly granted bail to Rhea on furnishing Rs. 1 lac bail bond along with other conditions. According to reports, the bench granted bail to Sushant's house manager Samuel Miranda and staff member Dipesh Sawant. However, the bail pleas of Showik and Abdel Basith Parihar were rejected.

Reportedly, Rhea will be required to mark her presence at the nearest police station for 10 days after release. She has to reportedly deposit her passport and has been instructed to not travel out of India without prior permission from the court. The Bombay High Court, as per sources, asked Rhea to inform the investigating officer in case she has to step out of Greater Mumbai.

Bombay HC said in the order granting bail to Rhea in NDPS Case, "She is not part of drug dealers. She has not forwarded the drugs allegedly procured by her to somebody else to earn monetary or other benefits. Since she has no criminal antecedents, there are reasonable grounds for believing that she is not likely to commit any offence while on bail", the #BombayHC observed."

Celebrities or role models do not incur any special liability or enjoy any special privilege before the court of law." Bombay HC further stated.

Rhea, who was dating Sushant, was arrested by the NCB on September 8, on charges of being an active member of a drug group in Mumbai. Her brother Showik was arrested on September 5. After her bail plea was rejected by the special court, Rhea filed an appeal before the Bombay High Court. Rhea was in Byculla Women’s jail.
